Come dine & drink with me-Porto special (Portugal)

On my bar & restaurant reviews my focus were bars and restaurants in Porto, Portugal.
Dom Tonho (Cais da Ribeira 13-4050 Porto, Portugal)
Dom Tonho is on the river’s edge with a view of Gaia on the other side and the Dom Luis I Bridge towering above. We had a table for lunch by the water and the warm weather and view were wonderful.
The service was polite, kind and helpful and the waiter drop by very often to pour it our wines, refill our water glasses or serve more food. The food was tasty, colourful and delicately made.
Some of the selection ofered

To start we had a dish of cold octopus and a cold bacalhau & chick pea salad.

One of our choices!
For mains, we shared the roasted “carneiro”-which was delicious.  We drank a lovely Portuguese wine “vinho verde” and worked very well. To finish we had fresh fruit and the lemon sorbet with a glass of fine port. Perfect birthday lunch!
Restaurante Adega e Presuntaria Transmontana (Avenida Diogo Leite, 80, 4400-111 Vila Nova de Gaia)
The stone walls of this restaurant dates back to medieval times, and the menu here is nothing short of amazing and it’s my favourite meal of the holiday. It serves typical food from northern Portugal like ham, beans, sausages, wild pig meat, olives.
HRH was drawn in by seeing the aging hams hanging over the bar.
We start by having a selection of cheeses and hams and the local hot tripe ( we always tries what is local specially) and my main choice was the pork and clams dish (half portion.) that left HRH with more octopus… yes! He went on a personal best octopus restaurant journey!
My dish
I’d go back in a heartbeat
CUFRA. (Av. da Boavista, 2504, 4100-119)
This restaurant is outside the tourist area and its very good. Try the “frascesinha is a sandwich with grave or the “marisqueiro” platters. We went there twice as it was close to where we stayed (Sheraton) and we liked the low key and family feeling. Prices were not expensive either.

Main- dish for 1- beef

Another starter- clams
Other meal:

want some?

Absolute great sea food platter
Bars… close to Pestana hotel there are lots bars and we enjoyed having a drink one of them I forgot the name… and we drank looking the river and stretching on the bean bags…
I also really recommend going to Bar Praia da Luz (Avenida do Brasil, Praia da Luz  4150 Porto)

Our choice of vinho verde
And of course, you can sit in any local coffee place for an espresso and a delightful Portuguese’s sweet…
I had tried all of them and now I need to diet as they are really rich …
Im having “pastel de nata com chocolate”
“ovos moles” in our  day trip to Aveiros

“mil folhas”

local sweet market stall
Want to make some custard tarts? This blog have a lovely recipe.
I also recommend that most of the dishes should be shared as the portions sizes are very large and easily feed 2 to 3on one dish. Or you can pig out like us…
“Saude” / Cheers
Also visit as many Port houses as you can. I liked Graham and Sandeman.

Their tour is great(Graham)- get a free bus
