Sewing plan, have you got one?

As the season change many sewists start planning their sewing  either by selecting  patterns, colour schemes or both.
This week I read some really exiting plans and I hope they will come true because, oh boy, there are so many cute new patterns just launched and it’s always exciting to see them made by real people.
I am debating whatever I should create a plan too. I normally have a huge list and end up always deviating from it. However, the mini wardrobe challenge actually worked in my favour, because 4 items were manageable and having the right fabric helped.
What’s on my sewing table: My pastille is half cut for a few days now and started the muslin for Gertie’s coat sew along and would love to do a pin tuck shirt dress maybe using the passport pattern from Lisette but besides that, I haven’t made my mind on what to do for A/W. I guess it’s because it’s time for me to concentrate on job searching, getting my house in order and planning christmas gifts!
The weather is cold and dark, making me crave time to be under the duvet embroidering or quilting instead of sewing…
Do you have any plans for the new season? I would love to hear it!
  • Rachel, I really haven’t any plans.. I think I am dreading to see winter heading our way..and don’t want to think about that kind of
But ,I will probably get in the winter mood, once I visit the new sewing patterns.. Then will make some winter choices..
Good luck on your job search.. And [yucky on the house]

  • Hello! No plans! Ever. You see, making lists makes me anxious, you have to finish the list, have to get the right fabric and colour, which in my case is not always available, so I just go along with what I want to sew at a given moment, or what the fabric inspired me to make… as a result my cupboard is a mayhem of unmatchable items… but I live a happy unstressed sewing life!

  • No plans whatsoever! I had one during spring/summer season, but did not stick to it. With Burda issues and new indie patterns, ideas pop-up like mushrooms and it becomes difficult to follow the plan. What I think is good, though, is to decide the basic 2-3 garments for the season and colors you’d be working with, creating so-to-say color palette. It helps in creating a coherent mini-wardrobe, like the one you’ve presented for the Pattern Review challenge.

  • I do! Lots. I make notes and jot down ideas all the time. And sometimes they don’t happen for a year because I realize that what I want to do does not equal my skill level so I have to do the leveling up first!

Right now my main goal is to turn a button down blouse and a trousers pattern into something tried n true that I can make several times over in different fabric with completely different looks. Wish me luck!

  • I am delighted with the change of seasons, I see the fellow bloggers with color palettes and new dreams and projects, I love it!

  • I’m sewing with a plan for the first time EVER in my sewing life. Usually I fly by whatever inspires me, but lately I’ve been very frustrated putting separates together as the seasons change. Stand-alone dresses are great for summer or more dressier occasions in the fall/winter, but I really needed some basics that all coordinate. So I’m doing my first SWAP ever.

  • I’ve got definite plans for this fall. I’m trying to make over my wardrobe a bit & am planning on sewing foundation garments- not girdles but garments that will make up the foundation of my wardrobe.

  • I am big fan of the plans!! So i am thinking to make some plan for winter sewing too!! i need some skirt, some jumper and dress too!%))

  • I have two plans, start and finish something! Doesn’t matter what it is, just get my ass back to the sewing machine. The other plan is to try and learn how to knit something that isn’t a square/rectangle, I don’t have to finish anything in particular just learn how to do it.

Maybe you should plan something small again like the mini wardrobe challenge so you don’t feel overfaced by the list.

Good luck on the job hunt btw! 🙂

  • None at all…. I really need to clear out my stash, at the moment I’m the ‘sewing snail’. I want to do so many things but the $ are getting in the way….

  • I was very pleased to find this site. I definitely enjoyed reading every little bit of it and I have it bookmarked to check out new stuff posted regularly.
