The secret garden airelle dress

Pattern: Deer & Doe Airelle blouse made into a dress
Fabric:  All cotton bought locally. I’m lucky to have a few fabric shops around me.
Size and Alteration: Size 38 without fitting alterations. I only lengthen the blouse in a slightly A line shape. The sleeves were cut like the  colette macaroon, with a slighly tulip shape and I used self drafted facings. The ties are placed above the waist for an empire dress look to avoid the crispness and the excess fabric to make me look bigger.
I made it  like a dress to show my students how versitile this pattern is. Oh my, I cannot wait to share how exciting was to teach this blouse at the Village Haberdashery. The best was recieve lovely emails from my students after the class. I’m teaching this blouse September 21th. Are you coming?
There is nothing I havent said about this pattern already: here & here.
I have to confess that feels so is strange to wear something that loose fitting and boxy. I like this pattern better as a blouse so I can wear with skynny jeans, however this dress is very adorable and looks very pretty inside.

  • It’s so beautiful Rachel and you can totally carry off the style, so don’t worry about that! Can’t wait to hear all about your teaching experiences ;o)

  • A very cute dress! (Though I had the same thought – I am used to seeing you in more fitted things, but it’s very cute.)

  • This is so cute on you! I love it! It doesn’t look boxy or shapeless at all– nothing does on you! 🙂

  • The dress is really adorable. I bet it’s nice to wear something breezy in the heat. And, It probably works well over swimwear also, being that it’s a nice light, loose fitting cotton.

  • I love the fabric and the little hint of green under the collar is perfect. It doesn’t look boxy in any way with the empire line ties give it a really good shape. Another great make 🙂

  • It looks awesome! I have this pattern too and I’m totally convinced to give the dress a try… I’m still a bit nervous about big changes to the pattern, though. But I gotta say: it doesn’t look boxy at all!

Very pretty. I like the contrast collar.

  • This looks lovely. I always have trouble fitting the neck of the airelle, it always comes out slightly wonky & a little baggy. This dress inspires me to keep trying.
