#Dakotasewalong: Inspiration

Hello sew-alongers,
We love to hear your comments and some expressed that they weren’t sure if the Dakota would suit them.
Nothing like providing a little bit of inspiration to help out those creative juices going.
On some sew along tutorial pictures you will see a linen version inspired by an oversized shirt look. My ponte knit was inspired by a jacket and skirt combo.
Here are some of my inspiration picks based on current fashion trends:

Rock & Roll Leather

Collar-less and sleeveless, with the neck opening raised higher. Source

I’m so in love by this Tufi Duek number (fresh of Brazilian SPFW). Source:

Party season

  • I love the leather version ! And, of course, Kate’s green coat… I chose a fabric very close to the pattern, a strong jersey in blue green, not very original. But, for someone who wears only black clothes, it’s getting better šŸ˜‰

  • Such fantastic inspiration Rachel…love them all, but a ‘leather’ version would be so cool! May have to consider this for a future make!!!

  • Ibhave had plans to make the dakota dress for a while, just have a little sewing queue of a coule of things to do before. This queue changes with my mood thou and after your versiob with a higher neckline and all this inspiration the dakota dress kind of pushes itself to 1st or second place of the line in order to “force” me to join the sewalong šŸ˜€

  • Wow, such amazing inspiration. I’ve been eying off this pattern from the start, but your ideas tipped me over the edge to actually purchase it.

  • Okay, I admit I wasn’t completely sold on this pattern but your amazing red version, and now these and you are definitely winning me over. I wonder if I could get away with a leather and lace version, or would that be too eighties hair rock? Can you be too eighties hair rock? I am going to have to buy this pattern I think, I just wish I had time to join in the Sewalong this month.

  • Hello, as you and Marie are both in the UK, when it comes up later in the sewalong please remind the North American sew-alongers that named patterns will not print correctly on US Letter sized paper – it is too large and parts will be cut off. A solution is to take it to a print shop and have it printed on US Legal sized paper for 10cents each, thus $1.50 total – it should fit perfectly then. Unfortunately home printers often don’t accommodate for the wider legal/A4 paper, even if you do someone get your hands on it. (A ream at staples for A4 paper is 10$!)
