Girl out and about town.

Girl out and about town.

Hello friends,

Today, both myself and Lauren are the last stops of Sew Caroline new dress pattern tour: Out and About dress.  This is her first pattern, designed for the everyday wear.

You know, comfortable enough to run errants but still look put together to meet girls for lunch, shopping etc. A great change from my jeans & sweater combo.

This is my first time sewing a knit jersey dress baby doll style. It’s really out of my comfort zone style-wise.
Altho other shapes suits my body better, this dress is so easy to wear and I really like the contrasting elements.Using two different types of knits gave the dress a fun separate feel.
I have sewn a straight size M, knee high and long sleeves with the cuffs. The instructions are very clear to follow, with photos of every step.

I stabilise all my knit dresses at the shoulders with clear elastic. Next time I will stabilised the pockets.

Don’t you love pockets? Contrasting colour pockets only have one issue. They are a bit visible from the side.
The only change on the pattern design was lowering the neckline by a few cm.

I’m so ready for spring….

  • This dress is cute and sassy at the same time. It’s great.

  • This looks really cute, I am with you, I like this dress but it isn’t a shape/style that works for me. Great job with the fabric mixing.

    • Thanks. belts are our best friends. I do think on a really hot day loose shapes work best so maybe I make a short sleeve version

  • great dress–it looks so comfy! And your shoes are darling–they match so perfectly.

    • thank you.. ohh those shoes are like wearing house slippers… really perfect for spring summer

  • Really cute. And great colours on you too x

  • That looks lovely on you and I would totally have done contrast pockets on it, too!

  • It’s lovely. I love the contrast colours with the belt!

    • that belt is from H&M and you can change the fabric, making it so interchange. Also a fun thing to use scraps square scarfs instead of the original

  • Sam

Fab! It looks like a great stylish alternative to jeans with that coat especially.

    • yes, I really love my red mac. Its so similar to the minoru that when it gets old i will try to make my version

  • Lovely, springy dress! Where did you get the gorgeous anchor jersey from? I need some…

  • This is such a cute dress – loving that you used a plain fabric for the bodice and the anchor print for the skirt, it really changes the look. And I totally think this style suits your body shape!!!
(Oh and I’ve just noticed the contrast cuffs – CUTE!)

  • Love the dress, I’m all for anchor prints. It really suits you!

  • This looks great on you! Love the fabrics you chose.

  • Kim

Beautiful dress! I love that it almost looks like separates, but then the sleeves have the contrasting cuffs, great design feature 🙂

  • Rach, it’s simply gorgeous! Definitely my sort of thing but you definitely made it your own- fabulous!!!

  • Really lovely dress!

  • It looks gorgeous on you, yours is my favourite:) x

  • This looks so nice on you. I love the combination of the two fabrics. This will be the perfect dress for spring/summer.

  • I really like the way you fitted and accessorized that dress. That style became very popular in T-shirt knits in the 80s in the U.S. (the long version) and in the end started looking kind of sloppy on a lot of women. I hope people will follow your lead and make sure that it’s short, fitted, and worn with a belt.

  • Cute. Love how you mixed fabrics.

  • Totally cute Rachel, I think this might be my favourite thing you’ve made! Definitely want to make this.

  • Argh, I said no to this pattern since it’s so simple and not really my style, but I seriously love every one I’ve seen, especially when fabric mixing is involved. Yours might be my favorite of all!

  • Darling this totally pops on you. You look gorgeous 🙂 I think that shape is great on you love xxx

  • Oooh, I love it. The dress looks great on you and I love the anchor print. I especially love it styled with the red jacket

  • Kat

Really cute – I just LOVE it with that gorgeous red coat!

  • This is such a change from your normal style, but I really like it on you. It would be a great travelling dress being both comfortable and stylish
