Mood Fabrics Giveaway + Jamie Jeans by Named

Hello! I am making a guest appearance on Mood Sewciaty blog where I share my latest make with you. A project that is far from perfect but I won’t be listing all the things I wish I done better. For a long time I had procrastinated on starting my first pair of handmade jeans. Throughout my sewing journey I have always pushed myself out of my comfort zone over and over. Why not jeans? Sometimes those “jump off the cliff” projects are the ones the will bring the most joy and accomplishment. YAY!

Pattern: Jamie Jeans from Named. Jamie Jeans pdf pattern has been updated into copy-shop and layered pdf! I sent them an email asking if I could have the updated version of the instructions as my version was bought at their first launch. Remember when instructions were based text only? They sent me the lasted files (pattern included) next day. Named has great customer service and really listened to our feedback. Large size range and less overlapping. On new collection I didn’t have any pattern pieces need tracing.
Fabric:Theory Indigo Stretch cotton denim.* Courtesy of Mood. Delicious!
If you’d like the opportunity to win $50 gift voucher to put towards your own jeans fabric (or whatever you would like ) I’m hosting a giveaway here & social media with #Myfirstjeanswithmood.
Please leave a comment below on this post by Saturday, May 7th at midnight, UK time. In your comment, tell me what project have you been procrastinating on?

    The jeans look awesome!

When I first made jeans I had to stop myself from going up to complete strangers in the street to brag about it. I’ve been putting of making a mac, mainly because I hate adding seam allowances to patterns. but allie j has just posted her version which I love, so I’m going to try and get it done over the bank holiday

The Tessuti Sophie dress. I really love the look but I am short and I think it looks best on tall people. However I have just printed out the pattern and will have a go, hoping that my adjustments for a short figure won’t spoil this lovely shape. jennylarking at gmail dot com

Initially I procrastinated on making the Ginger Jeans. But I finally bit the bullet and started them, so now I’ll have to say the Bellatrix Blazer from Papercut Patterns. One day…!

  5. April 30, 2016 / 3:53 pm

I dont often procrastinate on my projects I get too excited! Howver, I always put off my mending! I have so many things that just need a small seam restitching but they are just not as fun as making something new!

I was procrastinating on my poppies de potosi dress for ages but just made it for my best friend’s wedding. Needs a couple of tweaks but I love it! Now I’m putting off a pair of wool tweed fabrics because the fabric was expensive, and I’m putting off making my wedding dress… because wedding dress! 😂

  11. April 30, 2016 / 4:37 pm

I’ve been procrastinating on finishing my first bra. The front’s all put together, but I cut the wrong back band the first time and haven’t gotten around to cutting the right one yet. :-/

The fit on those jeans is awesome! Great looking! I have a silk top that I bought the fabric for three years ago that is my procrastination baddie!

Procrastination, my old friend. I’m procrastinating on finishing a few projects. One is a hot pint blazer. The lining is awful and the sleeves just don’t fit right. The other is a popover shirt. I added extra room in the chest and hips to make it extra comfy but now I’m not so sure. I haven’t figured out a good solution for either. I think I need to stop my procrastinating ways and just finish them already!

    Great jeans!
I’ve been procrastinating on making a few knit skirts. I’m so nervous about knits and I don’t want to ruin this great fabric.

Love the jamie jeans. I would love to enter the drawing for them. I have been procrastinating on some drapes for the guest bedroom for a long time. Fashion sewing just seems so much more interesting.

I have a bra I haven’t finished since I can’t get the fit right. Just finished sewing my first pair of jeans! The fitting process was super hard but it feels so good to get the final pair on.

    April 30, 2016 / 6:25 pm

I got ambitious and decided to try to make a fitted blazer, but I am having fit issues and the thought of ripping out those seams a THIRD time is just too much for me right now! I put it away and have been concentrating on other crafts …

Definitely procrastinating over Clare coat from Closet Case since last autumn. But the weather keeps being cold do might get going now, I can still wear it!

  21. Mina
    April 30, 2016 / 6:36 pm

I desperately NEED to include bottoms in my seeing repertoire, but I haven’t made any in years. Why? They are super easy to get going, but I’m afraid of fit issues so I stick to dresses and blouses. 🙁 All this bottom weight fabric in my stash but to worried about my bottom to bother!

I have been procrastinating sewing a trench coat. I am in love with the idea of a mid weight jacket, but stressed about all of the new to me techniques,

  23. April 30, 2016 / 6:49 pm

I got some lovely Burberry wool in January but I still can’t decide what coat to make. I’ve got the Named Yona pattern and a couple of Vogues but I also like Butterick 6244. Just too many choices!

  24. Lissa

I have been procrastinating on a dress for my plus-size self. I need one for a wedding in November, which means I need to do at least one muslin to test-fit the dress. I also need to get to the gym daily! They go hand in hand!

    April 30, 2016 / 7:12 pm

I would love a black blazer that I have the supplies and pattern for but just don’t feel like taking the time to do the work! Cute jeans!

    April 30, 2016 / 7:17 pm

I have a luscious piece of black velvet that I’ve been wanting to make a fitted vest with. It’s something about that velvet that scares me!

  27. Meg
    April 30, 2016 / 7:21 pm

I have many projects, from a red leather jacket that just needs hemming to my most gorgeous fabric, an embroidered silk tweed, languishing to be made into a chanel type jacket.

  28. April 30, 2016 / 7:35 pm

These look amazing! I had been procrastinating on my Ginger jeans for SO long, and then finally finished them a couple days ago (only to have the zipper break). Other than that, I have a mending pile that’s currently taking over my sewing table! Thanks for the giveaway!

  29. April 30, 2016 / 8:06 pm

I love the Jamie Jeans pattern – they were my first pair too! I haven’t been too bad with procrastinating on my sewing projects lately, but I do have an almost finished sock that’s been sitting in its project bag for a couple months…

    April 30, 2016 / 8:26 pm

I’m dithering over a coat. It has flat felled seams (a first for me). I’ve started it in cream wool, incidentally from Mood, but I’m struggling to do it. It seams like such a big project to me as I’m used to simple children’s clothing.

I was given for my birthday last year the April Rhodes set of quilt fabric. I love it so much but can’t bear to cut into it. I’m so afraid I’ll choose the wrong quilt pattern that won’t hi -light the fabric

Your jeans look amazing Rachel. Totally with you on going out of your comfort zone to up your sewing game. I still haven’t tackled boning and my welt pockets could use some more work.

I have dresses planned for about two years now. So far I have just been whipping up quick shirts.

  38. Tina Briggs
    April 30, 2016 / 10:42 pm

For me it was our bedroom curtains… Not because I perceived this as difficult but because I was constantly sidetracked by making garments (for myself) instead. That was just more exciting… Curtains are finished now, thank goodness, I was able to focus on that a couple of weeks ago.

I’m procrastinating on the thurlow trousers by sewaholic. I’ve had the pattern for 2 years and they’re still on my to make list. I’d like to do them in denim as I’m not a great fan of skinny jeans. I really do like boot cut ones though.

I’ve been procrastinating making a pair of slim trousers! I have them cut out and everything… just can’t find the motivation. Your jeans look great!

  41. May 1, 2016 / 12:36 am

  44. May 1, 2016 / 1:06 am

  45. May 1, 2016 / 1:45 am

  46. Toni Salvia-Toth
    May 1, 2016 / 2:20 am

I’ve been procrastinating on everthing lately. I’ve gained some weight and keep telling myself that I should wait to cut into my fabric until I lose the weight. I know I need to just get over myself and make myself something. I think it’s really a matter of not wanting to waste/ ruin precious fabric.. which I have a ton of.

Good work on the jeans. They look awesome. I’ve been procrastinating on all sewing at the moment as uni, paid work and the kids have taken up all my time. I’ve got a MN Brumby skirt here waiting to be muslined as well as a PP Skipper tunic that I’ve printed out but yet to assemble.

Lovely jeans. Well done! I really want to sew a coat for the winter. I might give it a go with the Clare Coat by closet case files

  52. May 1, 2016 / 7:18 am

Ah procrastinating, that would a silk jersey wrap dress with a ton of handstitching. It was supposed to be my Christmas dress 3 or 4 or 5 years ago, but I only got started on it last year.

As for procrastinating over my sewing! I bought some lovely tie-dye denim to make a tunic dress last year in Kirkwall, Orkney when I went to visit my sister.
I’m still dithering over which pattern to use & it’s a year since we were there!

Great jeans. I have to say making a pair of jeans is the project I keep putting off. As I wear jeans so often they really should be my next project but a keep putting it off. I have a pattern on standby but not sure about fabric. Thank you for the giveaway.

  59. Ann Marshall
    May 1, 2016 / 11:12 am

Your jeans look fantastic! I made a jeans skirt once pattern testing for Marilla but not so sure about making a pair of jeans. Maybe I’ll have a go after seeing how well yours turned out. My son gave me a £50 Amazon voucher 2 years ago for my birthday. I have been procastinating ever since what sewing stuff to buy with it. It’s a good job there is no use by date on it.(In my defence I have moved house and made several pairs of curtains for my new house) [email protected]

I’ve got a wedding at the end of the month that I keep putting of making a dress for and I’ve got a quilt top that I started as a gift over a year ago that I keep avoiding finishing. I think the problem with both is that I’ve spent so much time thinking about them I can’t actually face doing anything with them.

  65. May 1, 2016 / 4:16 pm

I’ve been wanting to make some lingerie, but all the fitting issues and underwires and whatnot have definitely made me procrastinate on starting that. Someday, I’m sure!

  66. Carol S
    May 1, 2016 / 4:31 pm

I keep putting making a bra further down on this list. There’s just so much time and I’d rather make other things. I’ve made 2 pairs of jeans and have plans for the next 2. The sewing is fun and they get so much wear.

  75. Jessica Malcolm
    May 2, 2016 / 5:40 am

I am half way though a knit blouse pattern for myself, I melted the material with my too hot iron and now I’m dreading unpicking it, and cutting a new piece

  76. Christine Taylor
    May 2, 2016 / 7:35 am

It’s jeans too for me, the agony of getting the fit just right and then all those acres of topstitching and always the fear that you won’t like the final product. But I must have a go at them some time and that Theory denim looks wonderful, so please count me in.

  77. Erin
    May 2, 2016 / 8:32 am

Whenever I’m working on a project I’m always procrastinating over what to make next…I’m so indecisive it’s ridiculous! Debating between a top pattern I’ve made before, shorts in case we ever actually get any warm weather, or a vintage dress pattern. And then I need to choose fabric, aargh!

  78. amanda
    May 2, 2016 / 8:41 am

I adore Mood Fabrics and Named Patterns. What a super giveaway!
I started a starwars quilt for a boyfriend, and now he’s long gone… I am procrastinating finishing the project because I no longer have anyone to give it to. Kinda sad, but true.

Those jeans look great on you! I’m proctastinating on my yuzu reglan coat and my archer shirt.

  80. May 2, 2016 / 9:52 am

Good looking jeans! What I’m procastinating is outerwear. I would love to venture into that, but worry about all the material that needs sourcing, techniques, the fact that if it doesn’t turn out nice I’ve wasted a lot of time and materials.

  81. May 2, 2016 / 10:01 am

I have been procrastinating over jeans as well. I bought beautiful denim to make Birkin flares from Baste and Gather and then just felt too scared to start them. I feel like I am ready to take the plunge now but it’s taken a while!! Knowing these were your first pair has given me the final push to get on and make a start on mine! Yours look awesome.

  82. Pati from London

You look amazing in those jeans! I have several jeans patterns already, but I´m a little scared. Now, when I see yours, I´m more motivated to start my jeans too 🙂
I´m procrastinating over my first pair of male pants – I´m making a pair of Jutlands for my guy and they don´t go as smoothly as I expected. They need way much fitting :/

  84. Elizabeth Cruz
    May 2, 2016 / 12:26 pm

Love your jeans. I’ve been procastinating on a pencil skirt. Having such a hard time with the back darts. I have a small waist, wide hips and large derriere. The ends of the dart poke out. Not sure if my problem is the length of the dart or my technique.

  85. May 2, 2016 / 1:00 pm

Outerwear! I have to many ideas and to many patterns I want to make.

  86. Tua
    May 2, 2016 / 1:53 pm

Oh dear, I have too many projects I’ve been procrastinating on… I have currently two dresses mid-sewing (don’t even know why) and Named Mai zip jacket pattern waiting to be traced, amongst other things. Outerwear is defintely something I’ve been hesitant about but hopefully I’ll get a move on soon!

    May 2, 2016 / 3:53 pm

I’ve been procrastinating on sewing my Ginger jeans! I’m intimidated by having to potentially work on the fit through the hips area… Which is silly since I don’t even know yet if there will be any fit issues!

  91. Zina Henry
    May 2, 2016 / 6:42 pm

The question for me is what project have I not been procrastinating to make… But if I had to narrow one down it would probably be a self drafted dress. I want to learn how to self draft a bodice & expand patterns from that.

  92. May 2, 2016 / 10:48 pm

Congrats on making jeans! I have quite a few things in progress that have been sitting around (dress, beginnings of a skirt, a vest, a jacket). But just yesterday I was going through a small pile of fabric scraps and found dome neck binding Ibhad made for a Drape Drape 2 top that I had seen up months ago. Whoops – I completely forgot that I hadn’t finished it. So some procrastination is deliberate and some inadvertent. 😉

Ah, procrastination. A problem I know all too well. I have a Martha dress by Tilly and The Buttons that I have put off for going on 6 weeks now, meanwhile I have been working on endless numbers of pants! I think I might even add the Jamie to the growing list thanks to you. 🙂

I have been procrastinating up-cycling my wedding dress. My original idea was to shorten it, perhaps dye it myself (by using natural dyes), transform the strapless top slightly, etc. so I could wear it every year for my wedding anniversary as we celebrate it by going to the theater or dinner. However, as it started as procrastination, at this point I am not sure whether I should simply leave it as it is and keep it as memorabilia. Rachel – what would you do??!!

I’ve been procrastinating on a men’s shirt and men’s jeans. Projects that are meant for others tend to take more time than projects I make for myself, but I often put much more care and attention into gifts.

I’ve put off making pants – not because of a fear of the fabric or anything like that, just due to the task of fitting them. Ready to wear jeans NEVER fit me, so I know patterns will be the same and require a new set of fitting skills that I just don’t have yet and I haven’t wanted to devote the time to them quite yet. They are on my list to make this year though!

Haha oh dear, I’ve been procrastinating on making jeans as well! Mostly while waiting for my body to figure out what shape it’ll be post babies…. :-p

Maybe jeans aren’t as difficult as I think, I’ve been putting them off for a long time. Love your jeans, they really look nice on you.

What a nice start on your jean making. I have not tried it yet ,but there is a lot of great positive energy out there for making jeans yourself.

Hello Rachel – I’ve been a longtime lurker and admirer of your sewing for a while, but never commented because… I’m such a newbie. I’ve been procrastinating on sewing myself a white shirt. But I will definitely do it now. Love how the jeans came out. Chic, as always!

Hi Rachel, like you, I have procrastinated on making jeans. Your post was inspirational and was just what I needed to push me. Your jeans look great. I am excited to check out the denim available at Mood. Thank you!!!

I’m procrastinating on a wool jacket. And now it’s hot where I live so I’ll keep procrastinating a bit longer!!! I have all the fabric for it (wool from mood actually) and even made a muslin! But it will wait til the fall when it gets cooler! And then I’ll need to make more jeans too! =)

Your jeans look gorgeous! I’ve been procrastinating on a pair of linen trousers, mainly because I’ve never sewn pants before.

Someday perhaps I’ll have the skills and nerve to try jeans. I’m always procrastinating on sewing for myself, but I have a beautiful stack of fabric calling my name for summer!

I bought the Jamie jeans pattern last spring… so I’ve actually been procrastinating on the very thing that Rachel posted about! I think these jeans would be super cute in a bold color!

I recently ended a bout of sewing procrastination: Thursday – dissertation hand in, Friday – finally made the cushions for my housemate I’d been promising for three months. I’m also procrastinating on a velvet jacket though…

I’m always procrastinating on various projects, what I really need to do is stop leaving half finished projects in the excitement of new ones and then not getting back to them.

    May 7, 2016 / 10:53 pm

I’m still procrastinating making a suit jacket, I’ve collected four patterns now that I like, but still have not committed.

You’ve certainly nailed jean making. Great fit. I’m a procrastinator re jeans – usually just when I get in the mood to try I find a great pair in the thrift shop for $9 and can’t justify the make.
