For a long time I wanted to sew some of Ralph Pink’s sexy sewing patterns. His aesthetics is very high fashion. I love what he has done regarding his refreshed branding. Not only a fresh new website with finished garments pictures, clear pattern descriptions and a very comprehensivesize range, he brought old glamour mixed with modern confident women style to the sewing community. Autumn fashion for me is all about layering and although maxi dresses are generally associated with summer styles I think this pattern works really well for this time of the year.
- Size and Fit: Size 12.
- Fabric: Off White Lattice on Black Ponte De Roma Knit Fabric by Girl Charlee.
- Pattern Alterations: Lower darts by 3cm. The shape of the top is suppose to be loose, drape and contrasting to the tight skin fit of the skirt. As my fabric don’t have a good enough drape I adjusted the pattern making it close fitted but not skin tight. Fiddling with the fit in general, specially on the skirt panels messed the pattern matching but is not something that bothers me. The slit of the leg is very high for me so I closed the seam enough to be wearable but still maintaining the pattern sexy appeal. I would still like to make more fitting alterations but overall I love this dress.
- Finishing techniques: Long bias binding on the back featuring tie neck closure instead of top strip. Overlocked edges.
I am considering to get a cover-stitch so excuse my un-hemmed dress. Hemming knit dresses is so boring. I tend to leave a few projects accumulate before I get the twin needles out and sew them all at once. The great think about knit fabrics is that leaving it unfinished still looks great.
