Boss Lady. The Refashioners Suit Up reveal

When Portia mentioned that she had suits on her mind for this year Refashioners we were waiting to catch a fly back to the UK from visiting StoffStill. I openly said that I wasn’t sure about this theme. Suits? A bit boring. Actually when I was ‘officially’ invited Portia was a bit surprise I actually said yes. Well, I’m not a girl to run away from sewing challenges. Bring it on.

Last year it was really hard to find good denim and I confess I was very apprehensive about finding the right raw materials to work with. I decided to not have a plan or final vision until I found the right 2-piece. Refashioners are generally worked with large pieces and have their fabric re-cut into whatever design you intend. I thought it would be interesting to go the opposite direction. How about a zero waste project? By starting with something smaller. From that inspiration, the whole refashion process worked out quite fast and organically.

The base for this project? A Reiss 2-piece skirt suit that I couldn’t even try it on to show you.

I unpicked almost the whole jacket to add width.

To get in I sewn an invisible zipper. The covered buttons are just for charm.

I was initially thinking a long coat. However it wouldn’t be a dramatic transformation. So I went for a dress. I’m afraid I didn’t created a step by step tutorial for you guys. I literary just used my instincts when draping on a stand. There was a lot of unpicking to gain as much as I could on the sleeves. The dress is half lined including the sleeves. Overall I’m pleased with the final result. Not really office appropriate but surely says Boss lady!
